Food Fact 4: 7/24

Wow guys, it’s been roughly a month since I posted a foodfact ):

Did you guys know that while diet sodas have no calories, which a lot of people think are good, it has aspartame ? Aspartame is an artificial sweetner, used as a sugar substitute in foods and often in drinks. There are many controversies about whether aspartame is good for human consumption. Due to an internet hoax a few years back, stating that aspartame can cause diseases such as cancer and have many side effects. Although it is safe to consume aspartame, many are still shaken and believe the hoax and thus, do not consume it.

Food Fact 3: 6/29

Did you know that unripe pineapples are toxic? If you do happen to eat an unripe pineapple they cause mouth irritation, vomiting and diarrhea. The reason it’s toxic is because most plants are bitter and or toxic as self preservation so that they can’t be eaten too early. When you know you CAN eat them is when the seeds are visible.

Food Fact 2: (6/27)

When you make flan/pudding with caramel sauce, you have to make sure water isn’t at too high of a temperature or else when your flan comes out of the mold, it will have a lot of holes ):

Food fact 1: 6/26

In jellies with fruits, you can’t make them with fresh pineapples, or kiwis because their enzymes (called protease) break up the protein molecules in the jelly (whether it’s agar or gelatin), so they won’t be able to set. Cool right? haha. You can use the canned version though, because in the process of canning the fruits they heat up the fruits which causes the enzymes to lose their shape and not work. So in theory you should be able to use fresh pineapples or kiwis if you boil them and then put them in the jelly..
